If we think about how online worlds evolved\u2014text-based MUDs, early social VR apps, massive sandbox games\u2014every iteration shaped how we connect through screens.<\/p>\n In Shinto<\/strong>, the indigenous spiritual tradition of Japan, there\u2019s an idea that kami<\/em> (spirits) inhabit natural objects and places. Shrines are built to honor these presences. When I think of metaverses, I\u2019m struck by how each digital location can similarly hold an \u201cessence\u201d or \u201cpresence.\u201d<\/p>\n We often treat virtual worlds like code or data, but maybe these worlds have their own kind of spirit<\/strong>\u2014the cumulative energy of everyone interacting, building, and exploring together. It\u2019s intangible yet deeply felt.<\/p>\n For us, the metaverse isn\u2019t just about selling virtual hats or hosting VR concerts (though those are fun). It\u2019s about crafting meaningful spaces<\/strong> that evoke the same sense of wonder you might get in a real shrine or a forest glade. We want to help brands and creators shape corners of the metaverse that resonate with a \u201csacredness,\u201d even if it\u2019s just in a playful sense\u2014because the shared humanity behind all these polygons is real.<\/p>\n We\u2019re not burying our heads in code alone. We\u2019re asking: how do these digital places genuinely connect people, spark joy, or cultivate community?
